Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
What does psychotherapy with horses look like?
It will look different each session! Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) offers a creative and experiential approach partnering with horses to enact change. Many different techniques and modalities, including cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based, interpersonal, neuroscience, and somatic therapies, can be a part of EAP. Regardless of approach, the foundation of EAP is on connection; connection with self, with others, and of course, with horses. Through this connection, you will start to recognize your patterns and practice new strategies while moving through obstacles to gain new results. N Horse experience is not required and all services are non-riding. Who does it help? Almost everyone can find some benefit! On Course Therapy implements EAP to treat a variety of issues including anxiety disorders, depressive and other mood disorders, perinatal disorders and women's wellness, ADHD and disruptive behaviors, trauma, self-injury, interpersonal conflict, grief, stress from life changes, and other behavioral health concerns. We work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families. |
Equine-Assisted Learning and Activities
In addition to therapy, we also offer a variety of opportunities in equine-assisted learning and activities including groups, classes, summer camps, and more. Keep checking back to see what upcoming activities and events we have running. Most of our activities focus on the skills below but also may involve safety around horses, unmounted horsemanship skills, horse and farm care, and of course, fun! Just a few of the activities participants engage in include obstacle courses, scavenger hunts, water activities, arts and crafts, story-telling, horse and farm care, unmounted horsemanship and much more!
