FAQ's:
What is the cost and what types of payment do you accept? Is it covered by insurance?
Our therapy services are typically covered by insurance. We are in network with BCBS PPO, Cigna, United Healthcare/Optum and Aetna (pending). We can also provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement if we are not in network with your plan. The self pay rate ranges from $140 to $165 per therapy session.
Services other than therapy, including learning, activities, and camps, are not covered by insurance. Rates for these services vary greatly and can be found in that activity's information. We accept zelle (info@oncoursetherapy.com), cash, check, credit/debit cards, and HSA cards. Please contact us for more information on costs.
What will I/my child do in equine-assisted therapy? Who is it for?
We typically work with people ages 6 through adulthood, as well as with families, couples, and groups. There is no riding so all sessions are conducted from the ground. Specific session content depends on the service you are participating in, your goals, and your interactions with the horses. Therapy sessions are typically more unstructured and are centered around the connection and relationship with the horses, but could include learning and practicing strategies such as mindfulness, communication, etc. Our non-therapy programs vary but can include obstacles courses, scavenger hunts, team-building, arts and crafts, water activities, grooming, horse and farm care activities, and more! See our Services page for more information.
We have programs for pretty much anyone. See the About and Services pages for more information. All services are provided by Jill, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
What should I wear or bring?
Prepare to get dirty. Part of the fun of being outdoors and around horses is the dirt! Closed-toed, secure shoes are required to participate; please no sandals or crocs! Sometimes a horse may step on your foot and we are usually working in sand or dirt (or poop) and you want your feet protected. You may want to keep an extra set of clothes and towel in your car, especially if we are engaging in water activities. In the summer, please apply insect repellent and sun screen before arriving. We encourage you to bring water with you, as well. For camps with longer hours, please bring a snack, but do not bring food to give to the horses; they cannot eat everything that we can and we want them to connect with you, not your snacks.
Can I stay and watch my family member participate?
Unless other specified, we ask that you drop off and pickup participants. Just as in the office, the nature of therapy is private, and in order to maintain confidentiality, we do not permit viewers to our sessions. Occasionally, we may host events or programs that allow family members to stay or take part in, but only when explicitly stated.
Since it is outside, can I come all year?
At this time, services typically run April through November due to these being outside programs. The horses also get some time off too!
I am afraid of horses. Can this help me?
Yes! One of the benefits of equine-assisted psychotherapy is the ability to work on managing anxiety in the moment. We will work on developing coping strategies to the anxiety you feel in the moment, which you can translate to other anxiety-provoking situations in your life. We also move at a pace that feels safe to you.
