On Course Therapy and Learning comes out of Jill Horan's love of horses and her passion for helping others. She has been riding since she was 8 years old and has personally experienced the healing power of horses throughout her life.
Jill earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Northern Illinois University in 2009. She graduated with her Masters of Social Work from Aurora University in 2011 and is a licensed clinical social worker. She has worked in a variety of mental health settings including a forensic state hospital program, crisis intervention, community mental health, and private practice, and was a previous adjunct instructor in social work at Aurora University.
Jill is one of the owners and founders of a local behavioral health group practice, Stableway Counseling Services, that opened in 2015. As she continued in her professional journey, she realized that talk therapy alone was not effective for everyone and that many continued to struggle or felt stuck. Though an emerging modality, equine-assisted psychotherapy, Jill found a way to combine her two passions, horses and mental health; she established Course Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy Services in 2019.
She previously held Advanced certification in the EAGALA model and completed level 1 training in Natural Lifemanship. She is also certified in trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy, is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and is pursuing certification in perinatal mental health.
Jill works with clients ages 6 through adults, couples, groups, and families. She specializes in working with perinatal mental health and women's wellness, anxiety and mood disorders, and relational difficulties.
